Michael (Mike) Black is the Director of Corporate Analytics at Tri Counties Bank where he and his team are responsible for strategic planning, forecasting, budgeting, performance management and business intelligence. Prior to Tri Counties, Mike was the Director of Financial Planning and Analysis with Rabobank. With over 20 years in banking, Mike has experience in both front-line and support functions having begun his banking career with American Savings Bank (later Washington Mutual) where he developed an appreciation for branch banking (not an easy gig!) as well as the challenges and complexity offered by the banking industry.

Like many bankers, Mike identified a different path early and later found himself enjoying a successful career in banking. Originally pursuing a degree in Chemical Engineering at U.C Davis, life events spurred a change in direction. Mike began his banking career as a teller, progressing through various branch roles while completing his degree in Finance from California State University of Sacramento. After cutting his teeth in branch banking, Mike moved on to fund accounting and custody banking with Investors Bank and Trust, which soon thereafter became State Street, where the importance of sustainable, precise processes would set the foundation for continued process improvement. Mike joined Rabobank during the 2008 recession, a very interesting time to be introduced to the dynamics of foreign owned banking cooperative, a unique structure that provided ample opportunities to wear multiple hats within the corporate finance vertical for the next 11 years. Taking that experience to Tri Counties Bank, Mike and his team continue to reinforce data driven decision making, supporting the Bank's ability to continue a history of strong financial performance.

At the Pacific Coast banking School (PCBS), Mike teaches Managing Bank Financial Performance, a core first-year course that leverages financial metrics and industry data to evaluate how banks successfully carve out (or not) competitive advantage in an industry facing continuous consolidation, evolving economic forces, and technology disruption. Mike joined the PCBS faculty in 2021.
